From the time I held you
for the first ever,
looked into eyes fresh
to the world,
you became my greatest
cheerleader.
Acclaim meant nothing
until your smile
acknowledged my deeds,
validating them,
and you never withheld
that sunshine.
For your sake I stood tall
unwilling to see
disappointment in those
ever fresh eyes.
I hope you will always be
my adoring child.
